New regulations make liner waste expensive. We make it unnecessary.
UK EPR fees are now in effect for packaging waste — including the 300,000 tonnes of label backing hitting landfill yearly. Linerless rolls eliminate that liability while cutting your label costs 30-40%.

Data from 3 UK pilot sites; savings measured vs. die-cut labels.
Same 80mm roll, two very different outcomes
Die-cut vs. linerless, plainly shown.
The bars below are a close-up of one roll: light stripes = printed label, tan stripe = backing liner that’s peeled and binned.
Traditional die-cut labels
of each roll is liner waste
- Peel liner, stick label, throw liner away
- Fixed sizes — waste label space on short orders
- Need multiple SKUs for different label sizes
- Liner bins overflow during peak service
Linerless sticky media
usable label area
- Print, apply, done — no liner to remove
- Variable length — cuts exactly where data ends
- One roll handles every label size
- Zero waste to landfill
UK EPR is live — act now for 2026
UK packaging fees are now in effect.
Large producers received their first disposal invoices in October 2025. Eco-modulated penalties for hard-to-recycle packaging begin this year.

2× base rate
Silicone liner = RED rating
Die-cut label backing is coated with silicone to release adhesive. This contamination means it cannot be recycled through standard channels and typically goes to landfill.
waste per roll
- Silicone contamination blocks recycling
- RED rating = 2× disposal fee by 2028
- Every roll generates billable waste
No liner = no disposal fee
Linerless labels eliminate backing entirely. Zero liner waste means zero EPR disposal fees for that waste stream, plus likely GREEN rating for the recyclable thermal paper.
liner waste
- Zero liner disposal fees
- Likely GREEN RAM rating (lower base fee)
- 40% more labels per roll (less packaging overall)
- Cleaner operations, no liner bins
What this means for a large UK retailer
A grocery chain with nationwide stores generates significant label liner waste daily from deli counters, shelf-edge pricing, click-and-collect, and bakery labels.

View calculation assumptions
- ~500 die-cut labels per store per day
- Average liner waste: 1.5 kg per store per day
- Silicone liner rated RED under RAM
- Paper/card base fee £196/tonne × 2× RED multiplier = £392/tonne effective rate

From espresso shots
to tamper-evident seals.
The same roll prints a 40mm coffee cup sticker and a 180mm delivery bag seal. No SKU changes. No roll swaps. Just data in, label out.
Bigger, full-bleed previews
See how linerless handles espresso stickers, grill slips, and tamper seals without swapping rolls.
The "Complex Coffee"
High-volume coffee shops (Starbucks style)
Why sticky? One print covers recipe + name, so the cup leaves the bar with zero tape and zero confusion.
QSR Grill Slip
Fast food kitchen production line
Why sticky? Stuck directly to the burger wrap or clamshell box. Ensures the "No Pickle" burger goes to the right person.
Tamper-Evident Seal
UberEats / DoorDash / Deliveroo orders
Why sticky? The label is printed extra long to act as a security seal. It connects the bag body to the folded lid. If the label is ripped, the customer knows the food was touched.
Click & Collect
Retail store pickup (Best Buy, Grocery Curbside)
Why sticky? Used to hold a product on a "Staging shelf" awaiting pickup. Needs to be removed cleanly when handed to the customer without ruining the box art.
Variable Weight Deli
Supermarket Deli counter / Butcher
Why sticky? Traditional deli labels are a fixed size (e.g., 58x60mm). If the ingredients list is long, the text is microscopic. Sticky media expands the label to fit the ingredients legibly.
Pharmacy Prescription
Hospital pharmacy sorting meds into patient trays
Why sticky? Privacy and temporary identification. The label sticks to a reusable plastic bin while the prescription is filled, then is peeled off and shredded.
All examples use standard 80mm linerless media on Star Micronics and Bixolon printers.

Linerless Sticky Media
The sustainable future of thermal printing. Zero backing liner waste, variable-length printing, and up to 40% paper savings. Perfect for QSR order tickets, food labelling, and hospitality applications.
What is Linerless Media?
Linerless (or "sticky media") is direct thermal paper with a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the reverse side — like a roll of Post-it notes for your printer. Unlike traditional labels, there's no backing liner to peel off and discard.
Compatible Printers Required
Sticky media requires "linerless-compatible" hardware. Standard thermal printers will jam because the adhesive sticks to rubber rollers. Look for these features:
Compatible brands: Star Micronics, Bixolon, Epson (select models), Seiko, Zebra
Key Features of Sticky Thermal Paper
A concise set of essentials—kept icon-free for faster scanning.
Adhesive Backing
Pressure-sensitive adhesive on reverse side — stick labels directly to containers, bags, packaging, or any smooth surface.
Liner-Free Design
No backing liner to peel off and discard. 100% of every roll is usable product — zero waste to landfill.
Repositionable
Remove and reposition without leaving sticky residue. Perfect for temporary labelling, order tickets, and prep labels.
Eco-Friendly
Up to 40% more labels per roll vs traditional die-cut labels. Reduced packaging, shipping weight, and carbon footprint.
Adhesive Options
Choose one—no icons, just the facts.
Removable / Repositionable
Post-it style tack. Clean removal without residue. Ideal for QSR, hospitality, and food labelling.
Permanent
Strong bond for logistics, shipping, and warehouse applications. Used in Zebra ZeroLiner systems.
Patterned (Diamond/Matrix)
Geometric adhesive pattern reduces total glue coverage. Easier removal, less residue on cutter blades.
Common Applications
Linerless sticky media is ideal for any application where labels need quick, clean application.
